Do I Need Computer Skills In Order To Use FolioStop?

FolioStop has been designed so that people with no web building skills whatsoever can use it to create a great looking website. You do not need to know anything about html, javascript, flash or any other web technologies.

You will need to know what a website is and have some knowlege of how to use your own computer, for example to find images that you want to add to your site. Beyond these standard computer skills though all the tricky stuff is taken care of for you.

Your main task will be to decide what pages you want to have in your website. Then you can just drag and drop pages into the menu to create and re-order them. Adding content to pages is also as simple as dragging images from your computer into a gallery window.

You may decide that you need help choosing suitable colours for your website. Or perhaps you want a nice looking background image? We are here to help in this case and we provide an totally optional design service which you can request once you have signed up for the Free Trial.



What Limitations Are There On The Free Trial?

None. You can use your FolioStop website and the FolioEdit editing software unrestrcited during the 14 day Free Trial.

This means you really can try before you buy, and get complete peace of mind that FolioStop is right for you before you even have to think about getting out your credit card.

At the end of the Free Trial if you don't want to continue with FolioStop you don't have to do anything, just let the trial expire. If, (and we hope you do) you love it and want to sign up then it very quick to set up a subscription and you keep all the content that you have already put into the site.

Do I Have To Provide A Credit Card For The Free Trial?

Absolutely not! The free trial is completely no obligation and we do not request any payment details from you.

We want you to be entirely happy with your FolioStop website. If you decide it is not for you, you don't need to do anything, just let the trial expire.

Will My Free Trial Website Be Available Immediately?

Yes. Once you have completed the Free Trial form, we will send you an email to confirm your email address belongs to you. You click a link in this email to activate your account and your trial site is then available immediately!

Your website will live at an address like 'www.foliostop.com/youraccountname', where 'youraccountname' is the account name you choose when you fill out the Free Trial form.

However, unless you give out the web address (or get going on your search engine optimisation straight away) people won't be able to track it down, meaning you can wait until it's absolutely ready before letting people know about it.

Do All FolioStop Websites Look The Same?

FolioStop websites use pre-defined layouts to structure your page, so to this extent there may be some similarities between sites that use the same layout.

However, this is where the similarities will stop. Your logo, choice of styles, colours, background images, and of course the content of your site, will make your site look and feel very much your own.

The FolioStop team is developing new layouts and page components on an ongoing basis. The great thing about FolioStop is that you can chose to switch layouts any time you want (it only takes a second), so you can breath new life into your site and it won't cost you anything extra. Effectively FolioStop gives you access to as many different versions of your site as you want, so it will never get tired!

Can I Have My Own Domain Name?

Yes, you can register your own domain name through FolioStop and this will automatically point to your FolioStop website.

Once you have signed up for the Free Trial, log into http://myaccount.foliostop.com and click on the 'domains' menu item.

You can also add a domain that you have already registered elsewhere.

Can I Have A Personal Email Address?

We regret that FolioStop is unable to provide email addresses at this point in time.

If you have registered your domain already with another domain registrar then please use their email services.


Can My FolioStop Website Have E-commerce?

Yes you can have e-commerce with your FolioStop website. Once you have set up a PayPal account, you will have the use of "Buy It Now" and "Add To Cart" buttons.

It is also part of the FolioStop development road map to create a fully-fledged shopping cart for use in FolioStop websites, though we cannot specify a timescale for this.

Are The Websites Flash-based?

Yes - all our websites are flash-based, with an accompanying html version.

Flash allows us far more creative freedom with the site layouts and components than standard html sites.

In addition:
  • You don't get nasty page refreshes
  • Music can play uninterupted between pages
  • Video can integrate seamlessly

HTML Version

All FolioStop sites have an automtically created html version of the site. This allows any users who cannot use flash to view your site content.

Search Engines

Importantly, the html version also allows ALL site content to be indexed by search engines. In fact, FolioEdit allows you to carry out search engine optimisation on your site content.

Deep Linking

Links within the html site will also work in the flash site, allowing you to link directly to any page within your flash site. This is known as 'deep linking' and it also allows you to create internal links from one page in your site to another page in your site, without any page refresh.

Do I Need To Get Web Hosting For My FolioStop Site?

No. FolioStop sites run on our own hosted framework so you do not need to organise web hosting. The cost of hosting your site is covered by your subscription.

Will My Site Show Up In Google?

FolioStop websites are optimised so that your content is indexible by search engines. This helps to get your site listed in Google and other search engine results.

There are many factors which affect the positioning of your site in search engine results. It is important that the content of your website is relevent to the search phrase, and links to your site from other websites are also very important.

FolioEdit, the editing tool for building your FolioStop website, provides you with the means for setting page titles, keywords and descriptions. Setting these fields with suitable entries will also help your search engine positioning.

Can I Use This On Mac And PC?

Yes, FolioStop works on Mac, PC, and even Linux.

FolioEdit - our web building software that you use to create and edit your website - runs as a desktop application in Adobe AIR, which is cross platform.

Does It Matter Which Browser I Use?

No, FolioStop websites work on all major up to date browsers.

However for the best possible results while editing your website we strongly recommend that you use Firefox. This will allow the pages to load faster and hence make editing your site faster.

Why is my website not showing up in Google?

Your website won't show up in Google until you have registered the site with them. This is a very quick and easy process. Simply go to http://www.google.co.uk/addurl/?continue=/addurl and follow the instructions!
